Inspired by the movie Up, British designer Christopher Duffy created this unique, hand crafted coffee table, where the clear glass top appears to be floating atop lighter than air balloons, from toughened Glass, metal resin composite and toughened steel rods. Limited to an edition of only twenty, this playful piece that would be a conversation starter in any area of your home can be yours for about $9,300.
I’m pretty sure I saw this cozy Skull Chair on Modern Urban Living a few years back, but a friend on FaceBook just reminded me that it needed to come back out of hiding. Speaking of hiding, you could totally hide in this thing, as long as claustrophobia wasn’t a problem.

I had to look at this photo for a few seconds before I saw past the ornate, neo-Rococo frame to recognize the familiar Batman icon making up the actual mirror itself. Very cool! Created out of hand-molded, painted gypsum from a 2008 design by Stanislav Katz, this conversation-starting mirror comes standard in black, vintage gold or white (with other colors available on request), and measures just over 32-inches wide by 27-inches high. The sale price for one of just five mirrors currently available is $320 (not too dear really, considering) with shipping (from Latvia!) setting you back another $120. While this unique soft sculpture initially appears to be a sofa (due to its overall size and shape), a closer look reveals that this extremely cleverly designed Pig Chair isn’t really a couch, but more of a Love Seat (for two very skinny people) at best. At any rate, it looks soft and comfy and is certainly a fantastic conversation piece. According to designer Pavia Burroughs (who created “Hillhock,” she she calls it, as part of her senior design thesis) the chair is, “completely hand stitched, upholstered in dusty pink velvet and pink satin, sports two hand carved walnut hooves and two glass taxidermy eyes. His entire body has been padded with 2″ upholstery foam. Being mostly carved from insulation foam, he is surprising light weight and durable. He could easily be picked up by one average adult (except for his awkward shape). His underside is covered in bottom cloth, making him easily pushed around a room.”
The chair is selling on Etsy for $950 (pick up only on site in Philadelphia) and will be available for pick-up after May 19, 2011. More pictures and purchasing information are available at This Link.
