The Beatles Perform on Ed Sullivan For The First Time

On This Date, February 9th In 1964: The Beatles made their American live debut on The Ed Sullivan Show, performing a five song set including the number one single that week, “I Want to Hold Your Hand.” The show had received more than 50,000 applications for the 728 seats in the studio.

  1. And 45 years before THAT was the year 1919. That seems like a prehistoric period, World War I, Lenin, the Tsar. 1964 seems like, well, yesterday. Perhaps we should just start over and have 1964 year zero so that everything after the Beatles would be A.B. (Anno Beatlii).
