Hey! A friend just hipped me to the fact that Amazon.com is currently selling the Big Star 4-disc box set, Keep An Eye On The Sky, for just $25.34! That price represents about a $20 savings over what the set normally costs used, so you should jump on this offer if you are any kind of a fan/collector.

Originally relased by Rhino in September of 2009, Keep an Eye on the Sky includes 98 tracks spanning from 1968-1975 that includes alternate mixes and previously unrleased material, as well as extensive liner notes, rare and never-before-seen photos and insightful essays about the cult of Big Star and the band’s history. Sounds like a must-have to me! Like I said, act fast, because once their existing stock sells out the price will likely go back up.

Thanks to JR Taylor For The Tip!

Paul Weller Records The Beatles “Birthday” For Sir Paul McCartney’s 70th Birthday

Paul Weller Birthday McCartney 70

Available for ONE DAY ONLY
Weller’s Proceeds To Go To The War Child Charity

June 18, 2012 – What do you give as a birthday present to “The Most Successful Composer and Recording Artist of All Time” and greatest living songwriter of the 20th Century?  You give respect in the form of a brilliant reworking of one of their own compositions

June 18th is the 70th birthday of the one and only Sir Paul McCartney and as a huge mark of respect Paul Weller and his band have recorded a cover of The Beatles classic song “Birthday.” This passionate cover will be made available on June 18th for ONE DAY ONLY – and it will be available exclusively at Amazon.com for .70 cents

Weller says: “I wanted to do something for Paul’s 70th, the man’s been, and still is, an immense and enduring inspiration for me. It was him and his three friends that made me want to pick up a guitar in the first place. I saw him play live recently and he inspired me just as much as ever, he was brilliant. I just hope he likes our little version, a token of my and the band’s love for him and his music. Rock on Macca.”

Paul Weller and his band recorded “Birthday” (originally from The Beatles’ White Album) in one day down at Paul’s Black Barn studios.  Yep Roc Records will release the track in North America.  All proceeds from the sale of the single will go to the War Child charity.
