David Bowie Ziggy Stardust / Aladdin Sane Mini Lego Figures!

Ziggy Figure 1 Packaging

This year’s Five Points Festival is a few weeks behind us now, and trust me when I say that the full-on photo recap of this truly mind-blowing event is on the way. But in the meantime, I’d like to satiate your craving for art toy news with a little teaser, featuring my favorite purchase from the show: these adorable Mini Lego Figures of David Bowie as two of his most famous personas, Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane!

Ziggy Lego Mini

These figures were designed by artist Ron Reeves of Spandex Studios (SPandEX), and the attention to detail makes them instantly recognizable. For example, the toy above is rocking the Asymmetrical Knit Bodysuit designed by Kansai Yamamoto in 1973 for the Ziggy Stardust tour. Mini Lego Ziggy also comes with a Mic, so he can drop it.

And despite the fact that it says “Ziggy Stardust” on the packaging, this figure is clearly Bowie from the Aladdin Sane-era — distinguish by the iconic lighting bolt across its face. The card art includes an image of Bowie from the D.A. Pennebaker live concert film, Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars (1973). Perhaps a bit more attention to detail could have been employed here, but whatever. It is still pretty cool.

KaNO Mural on Allen Street Celebrates Five Points Festival

The annual Five Points Festival Designer Toy and Comic Show is coming up this weekend, June 1st and 2nd, and I am very excited to be attending for my second year! Coincidentally, I happened to walk by the above mural, located on Allen Street, a few weeks ago, unaware that it was originally created to honor the first-ever Five Points Fest, back in May of 2017. Apparently, the owners of the Allen Hotel reactivated a relationship with the Little Italy Street Art (LISA) Project  to bring street artist KaNO to the corner of Allen and Rivington Street, and this 40-foot mural was the result! Sweet!

Taking place at the conveniently located Brooklyn Expo Center, and presented by Clutter Magazine, the festival will bring together the best Indie Artists, Designer Toys, Original Art, Resin Sculptures, Plush, Blind Boxes, Blanks, Minis, Kaiju, Japanese Vinyl, Street Art, Posters, Prints, Apparel, Live Painting, Craft Beer, Food Trucks, Pins, Patches and more!

Trust me, it’s going to be all kinds of crazy fun. Find out more about this year’s Five Points Festival, and purchase your tickets, at This Link!

Shark Attack With a Side of Bacon!

Shark Attack Bacon

You might remember this happy Grinning Shark cartoon from my rad coverage of 2018’s outrageously fun Five Points Festival. Or maybe not. Holding a side of Crispy Bacon and ready to chomp, this Shark is the work of the artist known only as Sharpy, who created it for the Red Envelope Show, which was up at Flushing Town Hall from January 5th through the 27th. And why the Bacon, you may ask? Well, to celebrate the Year of The Pig, of course!

Flashing back to a fun day spent at the Five Points Festival back in June, 2018, we remember passing by this epic likeness of Brazilian model Paula Almeida by artist Angel A. You can see it for yourself at the southeast corner of West Street and Milton Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Pink Thing of The Day: Rose Quartz Cosplayer From Steven Universe!

Rose Quartz Cosplayer

Five Points Fest did not really have a ton of cosplayers running around, at least not on the day I attended, but this dedicated fan of the animated TV show Steven Universe definitely stopped me in my tracks, dressed as they were as the likeness of Rose Quartz, a character from that show. Oh, the Pinkness.
