Sesame Street Characters on Box Truck

Anyone familiar with Sesame Street will recognize the likenesses of both Cookie Monster and The Count on the side of this well-tagged box truck, which I snapped a few photos of as it was stopped on Lafayette Street. The truck is the work of the COD Cru, a Bronx-based group of graffiti artists that’s been active since 1983! TC5 and KMS are two of the artists who left their tags on the truck. I wish I had been able to get a glimpse of the other side!

Pink Thing of The Day: Slum Sex By Schizo 27

Ah, pandemic-themed street art: I love it. Slum Sex (spray-painted sometimes in Pink, and sometimes not) is a tag by renegade street artist Schizo 27 (@shizo27), who is a member of the 2wo 7even Bandits; a crew that actually rejects the name ‘crew’ and instead refer to themselves as a team of art ‘Bandits.’ This, I  also love. All members of the 2wo 7even Bandits add the number 27 to their tags.

The 2wo 7even Bandits occasionally hold free Street Art Shows, where they paint discarded items (also known as trash) and buyers can pick up anything that strikes their fancy. Follow them on Instagram (@2wo_7even_bandits), for more information!

Photographed in Freeman Alley!

Pink Thing of The Day: Buff Monster Box Truck!

The Covid Life walks have lead me to all sorts of unexpected, magical discoveries! That might have something to do with the fact that I am now regularly exploring streets that, three months ago, I did not know existed. Case in point: Columbia Street. “Where The Fuck is That” you ask? It’s on the LES near Delancey, and walking north it eventually turns into Avenue D. But it was on Columbia Street,  that I saw this box truck idling in front of a grocery store, bearing Buff Monster’s awesome pink tag, along with his signature Mr. Melty character. Sweet.

Pink Thing Of The Day: Pink Spray-Painted Bird Mural

I was on my was to Beyond The Streets when I passed by a vacant lot, and noticed this fun Pink Bird which had been spray-painted on an adjacent wall. The tag says “Nico,” but I can’t find a street artist with that tag in the Google. So, whatever. This is on Kent Street just north of North 7th Street, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

I see the Street Tag “Sheep” — with the second ‘e’ written backwards — all over downtown, and today I saw it in this variation. The artist is Little Ricky.  Photographed on Houston walking east from Sixth Avenue.
