Google Buys the Zagat Guide

Show Me Where The Food Is

For all of my ceaseless efforts to find places to eat that are not my house, I was infused with joy earlier today to read that the Google has just purchased Zagat – the review company that rates not only restaurants but (less importantly) stores, hotels and other service providing establishments by surveying consumers.

Google’s Marissa Mayer, VP of local, maps and location services announced in This Blog Post that Google will “collaborate with Zagat to bring the power of Google search and Google Maps to their products and users, and to bring their innovation, trust and wealth of experience to our users.” It will be awesome to finally have the power of Zagat’s reccommendations available online since, in my experience, online access to specific review  information has been restricted because they want you to buy the annual print edition of their restaurant guide. How archaic! Now, if they could just keep my favorite eating establishments from going out of business.
