Pink Thing of The Day: Waving Queen Elizabeth Figure

There’s Tiki Bar up the block from me that has a row of little solar-powered Hula Dancer figures lined up in the front window, and the sunlight makes them dance tirelessly each day until it sets; so enchanting. And so it is with the Waving Queen Liz  I saw at the recent NY Now Summer Marketplace.  This Solar Queen greets you with a subtle twist of the wrist if you just expose her to lamplight (no sun needed)! Best of all, she may arrive dressed in Pink!

Pink Thing Of The Day: Miniature Pink Clawfoot Bathtub

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, then you might recall that I recently attended an art event at the National Museum of Mathematics (aka MoMath). On the way out of the museum that evening, I decided to pop in to the gift shop, where I noticed something at first seems a bit incongruous: a tiny Pink Bathtub . . . that was in use as a bin to hold little soaps shaped like the Pi symbol. Oh, the cleverness.

Pink Thing Of The Day: Abandoned Pig Toy and Child Seat

What looks to me to be some sort of a Pink Plastic Child’s Activity Seat accompanied by an adorable Pink Pig Toy were found abandoned on the sidewalk just steps from the entrance to the Goodwill Store on West 14th Street. This brings up so many questions for me. Like, why were they not donated to the store? Were they rejected for hygiene purposes due to Covid? Either way, it’s sad to think of this little piggie ending up in the bin. Sadness.

Yes, It Exists: Robotics Engineer Barbie

When I was a little girl creating fun adventures for my Barbie dolls, her career choices probably included Fashion Model, Lifeguard, Stewardess, Ken’s Girlfriend, and that’s about it. Now of course, Barbie can be whatever the fuck she wants to be, even a Robotics Engineer. Yes, I just typed that. Here’s what Mattel’s website has to say about 2018’s Career of The Year Barbie:

Dream big with the Barbie® Robotics Engineer doll! This Barbie® Career of the Year doll comes with a laptop and robot figure to play out all kinds of cool stories. Kids can explore exciting opportunities in the high-tech world and code their own futures!

  • Great gadgets include a purple laptop that shows a screenshot of her robotics project — and a silvery robot with arms that move at the shoulder.
  • Barbie® has partnered with Tynker, a game-based platform that teaches kids how to code and inspires them to explore STEM ( which stands for science, technology, engineering and math,) opportunities!
  • Her versatile workday outfit is designed for success with a trendy graphic t-shirt and denim jacket, accessorized with protective goggles.

I love how they specifically say ‘kids” and not “girls” in order to be gender inclusive. And hey, if this fashion-challenged, nerd Barbie (this one has deep-purple hair, excellent) encourages kids to learn to code, I’m all for it.

This tiny Pink Wooden Toy Robot, complete with articulated joints, was discovered by me in a box of stuff left for the taking on the top of the recycling bins in front of my apartment building. He was quickly rescued, given a good scrubbing with some soap and water, and placed in a new home here in the Chickpad, where all pink things are welcome.

Here he is, hanging out with his pink friends.

Update 12/29/20: I just discovered that he is called a Micro Cubebot and he folds up into the shape of a cube! Check him out here.

Kamala Harris As Fearless Girl By SacSix

Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris is the latest public figure to be transformed into street art by artist Sacsix, who recently did a fantastic job on Dr. Fauci. In his latest iteration, SacSix channels Harris’s inner Fearless Girl for a winning mash up. This paste-up is only few inches tall, so I had to really get down there to get the shot. Worth it. Good luck to Joe and Kamala in this race for our lives and our country’s future. I will be Voting Blue in November!
