Leave it to Deadpool to turn April Fool’s Day into a full-blown comic book event. This year, Marvel Comics is once again celebrating the Merc with a Mouth with April Pool’s Day, a playful, chaos-filled tribute arriving in comic shops alongside a special Deadpool: April Pool’s Day #1 one-shot. The release is part of a larger April Fool’s Day celebration that will also include merchandise, digital content, and other surprises centered around everyone’s favorite fourth-wall-breaking antihero.

The one-shot comic is written by legendary Deadpool writer Gail Simone and illustrated by acclaimed artist C.F. Villa, along with contributions from additional fan-favorite creators. As the story unfolds, Wade Wilson attempts to warn the Marvel Universe about a potentially catastrophic threat unfolding on April 1st. The catch? No one believes him. After years of pranks, gags, and outrageous behavior, the other heroes assume it’s just another joke — leaving the fate of the universe hanging in the balance.

Naturally, the celebration wouldn’t be complete without new collectible variant covers. This year’s April Pool’s Day variants feature artwork from superstar artists Mark Bagley, Chad Hardin, Matteo Lolli, and Phil Noto. Each cover captures Wade Wilson doing what he does best — annoying, confusing, and generally tormenting Marvel’s greatest heroes with his absurd antics.

Additional covers for DEADPOOL: APRIL POOL’S DAY #1 will be illustrated by David Baldeón, Todd Nauck, and Jim Rugg, while a special variant by Kei Zama will spotlight the cult-favorite character Death’s Head.

For fans who simply can’t get enough of Wade Wilson, the fun doesn’t stop there. Next month also marks the launch of Wade Wilson: Deadpool, a brand-new solo series from writer Benjamin Percy and artist Geoff Shaw. Part of the X-Men line’s new “Shadows of Tomorrow” era, the series promises to explore a darker and more dangerous chapter in Deadpool’s story as he searches for redemption following a tragic mistake that cost him everything.
