Robert Moog’s 78th Birthday Celebrated with Google Doodle

Moog Synthesizer Google Doodle

May 23rd, 2012 would have been the 78th Birthday of Dr. Robert Moog (pronounced MOHG), whose many achievments in electronic music include the invention of the synthesizer. Google honors him today with their very clever Moog Synthesizer Google Doodle. Not only does it look cool, but the Doodle is also interactive! You can click to play it, but if you want to make real music, use the QWERTY row of your keyboard for the white keys, and numbers for the black keys. The buttons and knobs work as well, and you can record and play back your masterpieces on the tape recorder! Read more about the fascinating life of Bob Moog at This Link or by clicking directly on today’s Doodle. Happy Birthday, Bob Moog!

Mies van der Rohe Google Doodle!

Google Doodle Honoring Mies Van De Rohe

German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was born on this day, March 27th, in 1886. As a member of the Bauhaus design school, Mies (as he was called) was highly influential in shifting modern architecture away from the ornate to the simple, a design philosophy from which he popularized the phrase “Less is More.” Mies is honored by today’s Google Doodle, which depicts the SR Crown Hall in Chicago, one of his glass-and-steel designs. Happy Birthday, Mies!

Happy Birthday, Nikki Sixx!

Image Courtesy of Dennis Dunaway (Circa 1985, Click Photo to Enlarge)

How happy does Nikki Sixx look in the picture above, where he is book-ended by Dennis Dunaway (Alice Cooper) and Kub Coda (Brownsville Station) on the left and Neal Smith (Alice Cooper) and Joe Bouchard (Blue Oyster Cult) on the right? Nikki’s arms appear to be virtually un-inked and I’ve never seen Neal and Dennis with shorter hair, so you can tell this photo is from another era entirely. Still, it’s a fun blast from the past. Motley Crue Bassist and Renaissance Man Nikki Sixx was born on this day, December 11th, in 1958. Happy Birthday, Nikki!
