I’m not sure how I missed the fact for all of these years that Queen drummer Roger Taylor, shares July 26th, his anniversary of birth, with Mick Jagger. Taylor made his first appearance on the planet in 1949, while Jagger was here a few years before that, in 1943. I mean Mick Jagger is Mick Jagger – the guy is just everywhere – but Queen is the band that were like a religion to me at a time (high school) when music can really, literally save your life. So I really should have committed his birthday to memory at this point. Sorry Roger! Happy Birthday, guys!

On this Date, June 25th in 1967: An estimated 400 million people in 26 countries saw The Beatles debut “All You Need is Love” as part of the One World satellite broadcast. Among those who provided backing vocals on the track were Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton and Keith Moon. After an arduous recount procedure, it looks like Democrat Al Franken will finally be declared the winner of the tight U.S. Senate contest in Minnesota, thank god. Some of you youngsters out there might not know that Franken is also a well-known satirist who wrote for and starred on NBC’s Saturday Night Live back in the eighties (“The Al Franken Decade”). To celebrate Al’s exciting victory, here’s a hilarious clip from the TV show Solid Gold of Franken and his comedic partner, Tom Davis, performing The Rolling Stones’ “Under My Thumb” as Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, respectively.
On this day, July 26th, 2008, Mick Jagger turns 65 years old! I always say that I prefer the Rolling Stones’ music “from back in the sixties” to the music they’re making “now that they’re in their sixties”! That aside, Happy Birthday Mick, you were truly Born to Rock!
