Getting to know the people you work with can be challenging, despite daily interactions, especially with more of us working remotely at least some of the time. Try these ways to socialize outside of the office to develop deeper bonds, and perhaps real friendships, that will only serve to enhance your working experience and how you collaborate on projects.

1. Networking Events

Celebrate your shared skills together at local networking events. They’re a great way to connect with your colleagues in way that’s still focused on work, away from the pressure of daily tasks and intensive office atmosphere. Look out for events and go with an open mind, spending time socializing outside of your circle. Plan trips to conferences in your niche and meet contacts that could turn into clients or help you further your career.

2. Immersive Experiences

Step into entirely new situations without leaving your neighborhood by embracing immersive experiences, which have been taken to the next level by the latest developments in virtual and augmented reality technology. You can’t help but unwind in these unfamiliar environments, making them the perfect icebreaker.

These experiences are wide ranging, so you’re sure to find something to suit everyone. Look at virtual sports set-ups like golf simulators or challenge each other in fast-paced video games for something competitive without physical effort, or test your logic by working together to escape from an adrenaline-pumping escape room.

3. Outdoor Sports

Outdoor sports are an effective way to develop bonds and promote collaboration within your team, all while getting a dose of brain-boosting, mind-clearing fresh air. Put on your sneakers, split into two teams and build trust while having a ball! Remember to bear in mind people’s different physical abilities, and try to choose a sport that all can get involved in.

You don’t have to take part to enjoy and learn from outdoor sports! Watching the masters at work on the court, on the pitch or in the rink exemplifies teamwork, and you can bond over the teams you support.

4. Hobby Clubs

On that theme, consider finding other shared passions with people in your team and look for clubs where you could practice those hobbies together. Discover trending run clubs you can join for free and walking groups that head out of town on the weekends if you enjoy being active. Indoor fitness classes at your local gym or studio can be great fun too! Looking for something more leisurely? How about joining a book club, or attending arts classes teaching skills in pottery-making, macrame and more? Whatever you enjoy, you’re sure to find something you’ll love on the doorstep.

5. Local Events

One of the best reasons to get closer with your colleagues is the opportunity to do more with like-minded people who live in your area. Attending local events together encourages the feeling of community, which translates well into the workplace.

Lose yourselves in the razzle dazzle of local theatre performances or go to talks at your nearest college, given my some of the greatest minds of the day. Try food at a new restaurant or have drinks at a new bar, or wander a museum exhibition. Especially if you’re in a city, the possibilities are endless!
