I apologize in advance for not making it to Tony Oursler’s mAcHiNe E.L.F. exhibit at Lehmann Maupin Gallery until March 24th, the day before it closed. If you didn’t see it, and you’re reading this now, I’m afraid you’re going to have to live through me. In this review I am focusing solely on the video installation portion of the exhibit, the Crystal Forest — a mesmerizing multimedia head trip that liberates video from a traditional two-dimensional format and brings it into the realm of sculpture to create a truly immersive experience. Seriously, it was just insane. Continue reading Tony Oursler’s mAcHiNe E.L.F. Installation at Lehmann Maupin

Instagram Post of The Week: Fun at The Spring Break Art Show
I finally made it to the first post-Covid Spring Break Art Show — an extra-fun art event that this year took place across two entire vacant floors of a fancy office building on Madison Avenue. Having each individual office or cubical designed with the artworks of an individual or group of artists makes for a fantastically immersive experience. At times, I felt like I was in a haunted house of art, losing my sense of direction as I wandered from room to room, being charmed and delighted to varying degrees by what I encountered. Needless to say, but you can see I am about to, it was very surreal and fun. Check out a few of my favorite pieces at the above Instagram post with a simple click of your mouse!

Jean-Michel Basquiat: King Pleasure Gives The Pop Culture Icon a Second Life
Story and All Photos By Gail Worley

The crime was easily foiled as the couple — who, sadly, avoided apprehension — attempted to just walk out of the gallery holding the artwork. Ballsy! I mention this to illustrate the fact that Basquiat’s popularity hasn’t waned in the 34 years since his death from an accidental drug overdose at age 28. Though he did not get to live a long life, Jean-Michel Basquiat lives on through his art, and King Pleasure is here to make sure he is not forgotten.

Blow Your Mind at Cascade: A Jen Stark Experience!
When it comes to unique activities (especially on a rainy day like today), I don’t think you could plan better than to spend an hour inside Cascade: A Jen Stark Experience; an immersive, interactive, wildly psychedelic digital art experience presented across 6,000 square feet of exhibition space at the William Vale Hotel in Brooklyn. If you’re curious whether Cascade — which is currently competing with two immersive digital Van Gogh exhibits, and Banksy’s Genius or Vandal — is worth the trek from Manhattan to Brooklyn, let me assure you that it is all that and a bag of shrooms.
Come take a peek inside.
