Marvel Comics is honoring Disability Pride Month this July with a special publishing initiative that shines a spotlight on some of the Marvel Universe’s most beloved disabled heroes. The celebration will unfold across four titles — Amazing Spider-Man #32, Uncanny X-Men #31, Fantastic Four #14, and Wolverine #24—each featuring an original backup story and exclusive Disability Pride variant covers.

Written by Marieke Nijkamp (Hawkeye: Kate Bishop) and illustrated by Andrea Di Vito (Emma Frost: The White Queen), the four-part backup story brings together an impressive lineup of heroes whose experiences intersect with a range of disabilities. Readers can look forward to appearances by Daredevil, Misty Knight, Echo, Hawkeye, Silhouette, and Finesse as they unite on a mission to rescue Colleen Wing from a deadly threat.

Rather than focusing solely on super-powered action, the story also emphasizes themes of community, resilience, and mutual support. It’s a celebration of heroes whose strength comes not only from their abilities, but from their determination and the connections they forge with others.

“It may sound a bit cheesy to say this is a dream project, but for these stories, I got to bring together a roster of spectacular heroes and write an epic adventure that’s all about strength in community,” said Nijkamp. “It really is a dream come true.”

Artist Andrea Di Vito noted that the project highlights the real-world inspiration behind superhero stories. “Super heroes are meant to inspire us to be better, but sometimes we forget that the greatest inspirations come from real life,” Di Vito said. “People with disabilities prove to each and every one of us that the true measure of our worth is our spirit and our will, not the limitations of our bodies.”

The initiative is part of Marvel’s Voices program, which celebrates the diverse identities, experiences, and perspectives represented throughout the Marvel Universe.

In addition to the new stories, fans can collect a series of striking Disability Pride variant covers created by acclaimed artists Jamie McKelvie, David Mack, Aaron Kuder, Leinil Francis Yu, and Stephen Segovia. The artwork showcases Marvel’s disability community front and center, giving these iconic heroes the spotlight they deserve.

The celebration begins with Amazing Spider-Man #32 on July 1, featuring a Disability Pride promotional cover by Jamie McKelvie and a variant cover by Leinil Francis Yu. The story continues in Uncanny X-Men #31 on July 8, which will feature a Disability Pride variant cover by David Mack, before carrying on through Fantastic Four #14 and Wolverine #24 later in the month.

For Marvel fans and collectors alike, the series offers both a compelling superhero adventure and a meaningful tribute to the power, visibility, and contributions of the disability community.
