There are some things in life that make perfect sense, and then there is Banana Hands. This 500-piece jigsaw puzzle from Piecework Puzzles features a wonderfully surreal photograph of what appears to be a person sitting at a table reading a book, surrounded by bananas and fruit. But in place of a head, they have a giant heart-shaped leaf (presumably a banana leaf). And their hands? Well, they’re bananas. Obviously.

Created from a photograph by artist Doan Ly, Banana Hands takes the ordinary still life and sends it into wonderfully weird territory. The tribal-patterned outfit, moody blue-green backdrop, piles of bananas, and scattered fruit give the whole scene the feeling of a very fashionable fever dream.

Once completed, the puzzle measures about 19.25 by 26.6 inches. Piecework uses thick stock and high-quality art paper, and even the puzzle board is made from recycled paper Piecework describes Banana Hands as a dive into “the imaginary and surreal,” with one excellent piece of advice: expect the unexpected.

No matter how funky your East Village decor, this is a jigsaw puzzle that would make a very unusual — and very fun — addition to your wall art.
