In The Running for Album Of The Year: Silverchair’sYoung Modern
Jesus god, who would have imagined that Australian’s most successful rock band ever could have progressed from sounding like a juvenile, more depressed version of Nirvana to becoming Roxy Music for the aughts? Silverchair’s latest CD, Young Modern, comes off like a heady, glossy amalgam of ’70s glam and The Beatles. And it doesn’t get much better than that for this girl.
I think David Bowie started it all in 1973 with Pin Ups, an album on which he performs some of his favorite songs by mid ’60s British groups. Since then, the name-act-pays-tribute-to-its-influences album has been done well by Duran Duran (Thank You) and less well by A Prefect Circle (eMOTIVe). ’70s Rock God Punky Meadows and His World Famous Pout
I just about lost my mind the other day when I accidentally tripped over Punky Meadows’ Myspace Page! Back in the ’70s, where all of the best music comes from, Punky was the guitarist for the progressive, glam-metal, pomp rock band, Angel. These days he apparently lives comfortably in the past and runs a tanning salon. Myspace is the greatest thing ever!
