I don’t remember what day it was. I didn’t notice what time it was. All I know is that I noticed a pair of Googly Eyes on a Mailbox. Soon, I was seeing Googly Eyes everywhere.
Googly Eyed Mailbox: The Beginning
A little bit of poking around on Instagram revealed that these Googly Eye stickers — which I have spotted on everything from planters to fire hydrants — are the project of a group of street artists known as the Googly Eye Cru (@googlyeyecru) who sell stickers packs so that you can put faces on any inanimate object in your neighborhood. Check it out!
Fire Alarm Boxes seem to be a popular target.
Fire Hydrants also lend themselves to being personified with the Googly Eyes.
This one is shy.
These Googly Eyes on a Citi Bike probably won’t help you navigate.
Mr. Trash Can sees you trying to litter.
These watchful Planters (and the two objects pictured below) are attached to a wall where you can find a rather elaborate mural by famous street artist Beau Stanton. The mural is located at 421 Troutman Street in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
Googly Eye Pipe Thing.
I don’t know what this is; maybe a mail slot or a vent of some kind. Whatever, it got the Googly Eye treatment.
Check back later as I will be adding more Googly Eyed objects to the post as I document them!
