This May, Marvel Comics will blow readers’ minds with a twist no one saw coming: Gwenpool is back — but not quite as we remember her.

Crafted by Star Wars: The High Republic writer Cavan Scott and brought vividly to life by rising artist Stefano Nesi in his Marvel debut, the new Gwenpool series reinvents the character in unexpected ways. At the center of the story is a dark, mysterious version of Gwen Stacy — yes, that Gwen Stacy — who emerges from the shadows with a thirst for vengeance, an arsenal of weaponized powers, and absolutely no chill.

Once known as Peter Parker’s first love and one of the most tragic figures in comic book history, Gwen Stacy now returns as a lethal, alternate-universe Gwenpool — deadlier, darker, and far less concerned with playing by the rules. As the lines between reality and comic-book chaos blur, the original Gwenpool (aka Gwendolyn Poole) must face this twisted mirror image of herself and unravel the mystery behind her reappearance.

What follows is a mind-bending, page-breaking adventure through a battle-ravaged New York City, with Spidey caught in the crossfire and unexpected allies like Kate Bishop and Jeff the Land Shark entering the fray. Fans can expect meta-humor, fourth-wall-shattering action, and the kind of outrageous storytelling that only a Gwenpool comic could deliver.

Cavan Scott couldn’t be more thrilled about pushing the boundaries of two fan-favorite characters. “What an absolute honor! To tear both Gwenpool and Spider-Man’s worlds apart? Yes please!” he said. “This is not the Gwen you remember. Weapon-X style abilities? Check. Killer comebacks? Absolutely. But who’s pulling the strings behind the scenes—and what does this mean for Gwenpool’s carefully constructed world?”

The series also marks an exciting Marvel debut for artist Stefano Nesi, whose dynamic style recently turned heads on Batman. Scott praised his collaborator, adding, “I couldn’t ask for a better partner. Mega-violence has never looked this good. Matt Milla’s colors turn every battle into a brutal spectacle. Monsters, murder, and mayhem? We’re bringing it all.”

And the art doesn’t stop with the interiors. Covers from Chad Hardin, Greg Land, and Jeehyung Lee showcase the dual Gwens in all their glory, while Paco Medina’s haunting variant featuring Gwen’s grave sets the tone for this game-changing series.
