Spotted recently  on a co-worker’s desk: a Pink Ceramic Skull absolutely smothered in tiny pink hearts — so many, in fact, that even the nose hole is a heart. Romantic and a little unhinged, which is really the sweet spot for pre–Valentine’s Day décor.

She might recall picking it up at TJ Maxx, though tracking one down now would require time travel or a miracle. By this point, they’ve almost certainly moved on to their 4th of July merchandise, because retail seasons wait for no one. Still, this heart-covered skull feels like the perfect reminder that Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be all roses and clichés. Sometimes love is just a touch macabre —and that’s the way I like it
