Making his impressive debut in the Video Clip of The Week this Sunday is Chris Corner’s IAMX, with the Performance Art-oriented clip for the track “Stardust.” Featuring celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D, this clip captures everything that makes the gothic/industrial scene so mesmerizing, while managing to keep this much-fetishized genre (which arguably, saw its commercial peak in the late 90s) fresh and intriguing. Mostly, it reminds me of my club days, when NYC venues like The Bank and Limelight were the places to go to dance yourself silly from midnight to dawn while communing with the other creatures of the night. Video Clip of The Week: Djustin, “Dancing”
Hey Bitches, everyone’s Favorite Thing, The Video Clip of The Week, makes a hard comeback for Spring with an awesome tune to get you movin’ and groovin’ on a Sunday morning — and if you don’t quite feel like moving just yet, you have something cool to look at — with Djustin’s neon-infused video for their uber hot synth-pop dance track, appropriately entitled “Dancing”! Because, Dancing!
Djustin is an unstoppable power duo comprised of Sweden’s Johan Angergård and his American partner, Rose Suau, and together they create something truly primal. “Dancing” wastes no time at all getting right to the heart of the club experience, putting the transcendent power of dance floor right in your head. Lyric videos have never looked as spectacular as this visual bombardment of Hot Pink and Bright Turquoise Neon signage delivering the message directly to your cerebral cortex against a backdrop of mirror-ball rays and tiny reflective shards of glittery stuff, all buoyed by Suau’s seductive vocal hooks reminiscent of Shannon’s 1983 smash hit, “Let The Music Play.” Resistance is futile.

Video Clip of The Week: Pictureplane, “Joyrider”
Are you ready to rock? You will be, once you hit “play” (remembering to strap-in first) on this week’s Video Clip for the tune “Joyrider”, from one-man electronic dance outfit, Pictureplane (AKA producer Travis Egedy). In a song that combines vibrant electronic dance and pop without ever losing sight of the melody, Pictureplane’s flow is ultra-smooth and his beats are super sick. I love this song!

Tom Everhart’s I Got Ants in My Pants and I Need to Dance at AFA Gallery

Charles Schulz, creator of the classic Peanuts comic strip, may be long gone, but his beloved characters live on! Just this past weekend, a new Peanuts Movie opened nationwide, while at a gallery in Soho, artist Tom Everhart, world-renowned for his Charles Schulz-inspired paintings of the Peanuts universe, launched his latest collection, entitled I Got Ants In My Pants, And I Need To Dance.
I Got Ants in My Pants sees Charlie Brown’s imaginative pet beagle Snoopy transformed into a whirling Dervish of motion, as Everhart adds bold splatters of brightly colored paint to simple sketches of Snoopy, who is lost in his own ecstatic dance moves.

Although Snoopy is a definite focal point of Everhart’s paintings, several of the other characters make appearances as well.

While Schulz was still living, he and Everhart enjoyed both a personal friendship and an artistic relationship greatly valued by both. The two artists painted alongside each other, developing a mutual respect so powerful that Schulz encouraged Everhart to carry forward his comic strip creations to the fine art form – with very fun results that are faithful to the spirit of Schulz’s characters.
Everhart was even brought in during the very first few days of the making of the Peanuts Movie by Blue Sky Studios in New York to share his knowledge of Schulz’s art with the full creative team.
I Got Ants In My Pants is a Family-friendly exhibit, and the art is priced to own.

Video Clip of the Week: Erik Hassle, “No Words”
My friend Geoffreyturned me on to Swedish Soul Sensation Erik Hassle, whose fun and (appropriately) soulful dance song, “No Words” is this week’s featured Video Clip! “No Words” is maybe the only upbeat pop song I’ve heard where the singer starts out talking about a bummer subject like a funeral, but it turns out he’s going somewhere with it, so pay attention.
As a pair of sassy young ladies jam out in their jammies while making what appears to be an ambitious breakfast in their tiny kitchen (are they roommates or a couple? Either works for me) Erik appears at their dining table, and the ladies aren’t quite sure if they should, you know, stab him with a large kitchen knife, or just ignore an apparent home invasion and continue to groove. Clearly it is bit of a conundrum.
It isn’t long before they are charmed and seduced by Erik’s sweet dance moves, as he boogies into their kitchen and not only destroys their breakfast in-the-making, but also makes quite a mess of the place. Will they be left to clean up the considerable detritus? No doubt.
But they are likely OK with that, because “No Words” is just that kind of compelling and contagious tune about loving who you want while you can. When Erik sings the lyrical hook, “No one knows what tomorrow holds / All we’ve got is here and now,” he makes this relationship song the flip-side of “The Living Years,” and turns deep regret into a celebration of possibility. Because the only thing that matters is what we do with the “Here and Now.” Heavy.
