Do you miss going to art galleries? I sure do. I know that many galleries have reopened, but as a fairly enthusiastic fan who used to spend nearly every Thursday evening roaming the streets of Chelsea, the scene just feels so dead while Covid keeps us from gathering together to celebrate our shared passion for art. Art! Because of this — even though I’ve been hitting the museums pretty hard — I’ve been feeling rather art-starved over the past year, and that’s just a shame.
In a year that, few will argue, has been unreasonably difficult for almost everyone, the holiday season offers us many opportunities to open our hearts, connect with others, and participate in something greater than ourselves. With that in mind, Wreaths Across America (WAA), a national non-profit organization that honors our military with a mission is to ‘Remember, Honor, and Teach,’ will continue this December with the placement of sponsored veterans’ wreaths at 2500 participating locations across America, most notably at Arlington National Cemetery. A highly-anticipated part of this annual event is the weeklong, miles-long parade of tractor trailers, wrapped vehicles carrying veterans and Gold Star Families, law enforcement and motorcycle riders, leading the escort of wreaths to Arlington for placement.
Food and Art go together; so what better venue could there be for throwing a cookie launch party than an actual art museum? We were recently invited to the Whitney Museum of American Art on Gansevoort Street to celebrate leading Japanese French-style confectioner Malebranche’s U.S. launch of its Maru Cha Cha matcha-based biscuits, and the evening was a terrific mix of food, art and Japanese culture.
The event went beyond the traditional cocktail party to include not only cocktails and delicious passed appetizers, but also tastings of the unique Maru Cha Cha cookies, including an indulgent Trifle dessert recipe by James Beard Award-winning Chef Michael Anthony. Guests had the chance to meet and mingle with the Japanese brand-influencers behind Malebranche (a high end bakery in Japan) and to learn what Matcha — the key ingredient in the Maru Cha Cha biscuits — is all about.

Atalie’s Hope will host its second annual gala, Thursday June 26, 2014 in New Hyde Park, NY. Cost is $150.00 per person and all proceeds will go towards the foundation. Atalie’s Hope was founded in honor of Atalie Bernic, a young mother who lost her battle against triple negative breast cancer when she was 39 years old. She is survived by her daughter Julia, age 9, who inspired the formation of this organization.
