Postcards From The Edge: A Massive Show of Tiny Art Makes Virtual Debut January 9th, 2021!

Do you miss going to art galleries? I sure do. I know that many galleries have reopened, but as a fairly enthusiastic fan who used to spend nearly every Thursday evening roaming the streets of Chelsea, the scene just feels so dead while Covid keeps us from gathering together to celebrate our shared passion for art. Art! Because of this — even though I’ve been hitting the museums pretty hard — I’ve been feeling rather art-starved over the past year, and that’s just a shame.

I am overjoyed then to tell you of a Massive Show of Tiny Art called Postcards From the Edge that will allow you to get your art-fix on from the safety of your own home,  because the whole thing is happening online! Not to mention, but you can see I am about to, proceeds from all sales of the art will support a charitable cause! Win, Win, Win! Wreaths Across America Hits the Road to Remember and Honor Our Veterans

wreaths across america graphic

In a year that, few will argue, has been unreasonably difficult for almost everyone, the holiday season offers us many opportunities to open our hearts, connect with others, and participate in something greater than ourselves. With that in mind, Wreaths Across America (WAA), a national non-profit organization that honors our military with a mission is to ‘Remember, Honor, and Teach,’ will continue this December with the placement of sponsored veterans’ wreaths at 2500 participating locations across America, most notably at Arlington National Cemetery. A highly-anticipated part of this annual event is the weeklong, miles-long parade of tractor trailers, wrapped vehicles carrying veterans and Gold Star Families, law enforcement and motorcycle riders, leading the escort of wreaths to Arlington for placement.

This year’s annual escort of wreaths will have a different look and feel due to the necessary changes being made throughout the country for health and safety. The physical journey – which will include one tractor trailer load of wreaths hauled by Gully Transportation professional driver JD Walker, who is also a Gold Star Father and NAVY Veteran, 11 wrapped CHEVY vehicles carrying Gold Star Families, and nine police cruisers – will take place from Tuesday, December 15th through National Wreaths Across America Day, Saturday, December 19th.

Food and Art go together; so what better venue could there be for throwing a cookie launch party than an actual art museum? We were recently invited to the Whitney Museum of American Art on Gansevoort Street to celebrate leading Japanese French-style confectioner Malebranche’s U.S. launch of its Maru Cha Cha matcha-based  biscuits, and the evening was a terrific mix of food, art and Japanese culture.

The event went beyond the traditional cocktail party to include not only cocktails and delicious passed appetizers, but also tastings of the unique Maru Cha Cha cookies, including an indulgent Trifle dessert recipe by James Beard Award-winning Chef Michael Anthony. Guests had the chance to meet and mingle with the Japanese brand-influencers behind Malebranche  (a high end bakery in Japan) and to learn what Matcha — the key ingredient in the Maru Cha Cha biscuits — is all about.

Children Of Loss Come Together: Atalie’s Hope Gala June 26th!

Atalies Hope Gala

Atalie’s Hope will host its second annual gala, Thursday June 26, 2014 in New Hyde Park, NY. Cost is $150.00 per person and all proceeds will go towards the foundation. Atalie’s Hope was founded in honor of Atalie Bernic, a young mother who lost her battle against triple negative breast cancer when she was 39 years old. She is survived by her daughter Julia, age 9, who inspired the formation of this organization.

A night of hope will include honoring two important members of our Atalie’s Hope community:

Ms. Susan Thomas, the program director for the Center for H.O.P.E. (Healing, Opportunity, Perseverance, Enlightenment) and Mr. Howard Capell, ESQ an attorney of law that has graciously given probono work for the support of the Atalie’s Hope cause along with a number of other charitable endeavors.

“Susan Thomas and Howard Capell were instrumental in the formation of Atalie’s Hope. Their daily work for those in need is truly inspirational, and it is our privilege to honor them.” – Nada Bernic, President of Atalie’s Hope.

Atalie’s Hope will also announce the first ever family recipient of the “Gift of Hope.” The Gift of Hope was founded in efforts to continue to inspire families that are coping with loss. This year, the Gift of Hope will be given to a family that recently lost their mother to breast cancer; the children and their father will receive all-expenses paid trip to Disney.

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed in American women; about 1 in 8 US women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. This has the potential to leave a large number of people indirectly affected by the disease as they continue to live in the aftermath of this disease. If you have (std testing), flexible spending account or health reimbursement arrangement, you can use that to pay for testing. Ensuring those affected, especially the children, have the support they need is critical and that’s what Atalie’s Hope stands for.

The large majority of Bronx Academy of Letters’ graduates continue on to college.

The Tenth Birthday Event takes place on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, from 6:30 – 9:30 PM at the Metropolitan Pavilion, located at 110 West 19th Street in New York City.
