According to the odds-makers at Sports Betting Dime, the Foo Fighters (-400), Jay-Z (-350) and Tina Turner (-200) have better than even odds to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year when the Class of 2021 is announced in May. Both the Foo Fighters and Jay-Z appear on the ballot for the first time. Turner was previously inducted for her work with the Ike & Tina Turner Revue but has yet to be inducted as a solo artist. Devo (+110), Todd Rundgren (+150) and The Go-Go’s (+175) are the most likely to join them.

Here’s a look at the odds for the 16 nominees to be inducted as part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2021 from the oddsmakers at @SBD. By the way, if fractional odds confound you, whichever artist has the lowest number – less than a value of 1 being ideal – is the favorite to win.

1. Foo Fighters: -400 (1/4)
2. Jay-Z: -350 (2/7)
3. Tina Turner: -200 (1/2)
4. Devo: +110 (11/10)
5. Todd Rundgren: +150 (3/2)
6. The Go-Go’s: +175 (7/4)
7. New York Dolls: +233 (7/3)
8. Fela Kuti: +250 (5/2)
9. Rage Against the Machine: +250 (5/2)
10. Carole King: +275 (11/4)
11. Mary J. Blige: +300 (3/1)
12. Iron Maiden: +400 (4/1)
13. Dionne Warwick: +450 (9/2)
14. Kate Bush: +500 (5/1)
15. LL Cool J: +700 (7/1)
16. Chaka Khan: +800 (8/1)

(-400 = bet 400 to win 100. +250 = bet 100 to win 250)

Happy Wagering!

Video Clip of The Week: Cloud Nothings, “Internal World”

Via a top-loading VHS cassette player and a 13-inch-screen TV that looks like it’s from the 1970s, Cloud Nothings bring us their fun and informative video for the uber-catchy pop tune, “Internal World. Cleverly disguised as an Etiquette and Manners educational film, the band themselves appear in vignettes offering sensible tips on personal hygiene, the correct use of a space heater, how to dress, the power of positive thinking, and the de rigueur dating tips, among other useful scenarios. Thank you! Aurally, it sounds (just like) “Buddy Holly” by Weezer — and you know, that can’t be bad.

“Internal World” can be found on the band’s fifth album, Life Without Sound due out January 27th, 2017 — just a few days away! Cloud Nothings are currently tour now in the US and elsewhere (scroll down for dates), so check them out when they come to your town! RIYL: Foo Fighters, Weezer, The Beatles. Enjoy!

Video Clip of The Week: Black Belt Karate, “Transformer”

At a time when I can’t even bear to turn on the radio for fear of being exposed to whatever mortifying horrorshow that’s passing for popular music, LA-based rock quartet Black Belt Karate are like oxygen in a vacuum. Being schooled veterans of many and varied rock projects (guitarist Jason Mezilis also plays in Owl with Cult bassist Chris Wyse) BBK deftly blend power pop hooks with a classic rock edge to deliver addictive tunes that will appeal to fans of Sloan, Green Day, Foo Fighters and Cheap Trick.

The very fun clip for “Transformer” — a buoyant anthem with a positive message of self-realization — sees the band auditioning for a casting director in front of a backdrop that makes it look like they’re part of a police line up. Interesting! The video takes on a bit of a “Sharp Dressed Man” feel with its interspersing of sassy video babes and clips of the band rocking out. You can see that lead vocalist Ryan Hanifil is just dripping with Rock Star charisma. Rumor has it that they also occasionally perform as a Doors Tribute band. Excellent.

Keep up with Black Belt Karate’s music, news and live performances by following them on the FaceBook at This Link. Enjoy!

Happy 42nd Birthday, Dave Grohl!

Dave Grohl, drummer for Nirvana, and singer / guitarist for the Foo Fighters was born on this day in 1969. I met Dave once, in the crowd at a Ministry concert in Seattle over ten years ago, and he was really nice. Happy Birthday, Dave!
