Mies van der Rohe Google Doodle!

Google Doodle Honoring Mies Van De Rohe

German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was born on this day, March 27th, in 1886. As a member of the Bauhaus design school, Mies (as he was called) was highly influential in shifting modern architecture away from the ornate to the simple, a design philosophy from which he popularized the phrase “Less is More.” Mies is honored by today’s Google Doodle, which depicts the SR Crown Hall in Chicago, one of his glass-and-steel designs. Happy Birthday, Mies!

Muppet Google Doodle Honors the Birthday of Jim Henson

September 24th is the Birth date of the late Jim Henson, best known for creating and voicing many of the beloved Muppet characters. Today, Google remembers what would have been Jim’s 75th Birthday with a very cool (and interactive) Home Page Doodle, seen above (Hint: click on the colorful “hand” buttons, from left to right, under each Muppet icon for a fun surprise). The Google Blog also has a very endearing remembrance of Jim written by his son Brian, which you can read at This Link. Happy Birthday, Jim!

Google UK Honors Freddie Mercury With Special Doodle and Video!

In honor of Freddie Mercury’s 65th Birthday (9/5/11), Google UK has a very cool Freddie Google Doodle featuring Freddie in his various incarnations during Queen’s career. The Doodle will be up in the US on Tuesday, September 6th as a belated Birthday nod to Freddie, since we are technically “Celebrating” Labor Day in the US today. You can read a special Birthday message to and remembrance of Freddie from Queen Guitarist Brian May at This Link. Watch an animated video of the Freddie Google Doodle below. Happy Birthday, Freddie!
