Happy Birthday, Kenny Scharf!

Contemporary Pop Artist Kenny Scharf was born on this day, November 23rd in 1958. It was almost a year ago today as well that Geoffrey and I were walking up Houston Street on a cold Black Friday evening when we passed Kenny as he worked on his amazing Houston Street Mural, (see image above or click on link) which has sadly been replaced several times since then. Happy Birthday, Kenny!

Happy Birthday, Peter Max!

Legendary Pop artist and philanthropist Peter Max was born on this day, October 19th in 1937. I bought my first original Peter Max painting this past summer while I was on my awesome Carnival Cruise through the western Caribbean. It now hangs on the wall in The Chickpad, making my home look even cooler than it did before! Happy Birthday, Peter!

Muppet Google Doodle Honors the Birthday of Jim Henson

September 24th is the Birth date of the late Jim Henson, best known for creating and voicing many of the beloved Muppet characters. Today, Google remembers what would have been Jim’s 75th Birthday with a very cool (and interactive) Home Page Doodle, seen above (Hint: click on the colorful “hand” buttons, from left to right, under each Muppet icon for a fun surprise). The Google Blog also has a very endearing remembrance of Jim written by his son Brian, which you can read at This Link. Happy Birthday, Jim!

Happy Birthday, Paul Reubens (AKA Pee-Wee Herman)!

Actor Paul Reubens, perhaps better known as the character Pee Wee Herman was born on this day in 1952. Happy Birthday Paul/Pee Wee!

Happy Birthday, Jon Schnepp!

Geoffrey, Jon and Me

Today, May 16th, is the birthday of one of the most entertaining people I’ve ever met, Jon Schnepp, who directs Metalocalypse, and works on a bunch of other awesome shows for the Adult Swim Network. Back in April, at least I think that’s when it was, I was lucky enough to hang out with Jon while we waited in line to get into Tara McPherson’s Cotton Candy Machine store for the Tiny Trifecta art sale. Jon is completely hilarious and had Geoffrey and I almost peeing our pants for the three hours it took us to get into the store. Jon, I hope you have a wonderful birthday and thank you for the laughs and the cool TV programs! If you’d like to learn more about Jon, and perhaps also wet your pants from laughter, you can read my February 2010 interview with him at This Link.
