Video Clip of The Week: From Indian Lakes, “Blank Tapes”

Just lately, do you feel like the world is making your head hurt, like, all the time? I sure do, and I have chosen this week’s Video Clip with sweet relief in mind. It is my hope that From Indian Lakes’ new music video for the song  “Blank Tapes” will calm your brain and sooth your weary soul. The brainchild of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joey VannucchiFrom Indian Lakes has been praised for its music’s rawness of emotions moody indie-rock vibe. Directed by Joshua Halling, the video for “Blank Tapes” portrays two women living through both the ecstasy and the agony of a committed relationship, but the video is an allegory for more than the ups and downs of young love.

Video Clip of The Week: Cloud Nothings, “Internal World”

Via a top-loading VHS cassette player and a 13-inch-screen TV that looks like it’s from the 1970s, Cloud Nothings bring us their fun and informative video for the uber-catchy pop tune, “Internal World. Cleverly disguised as an Etiquette and Manners educational film, the band themselves appear in vignettes offering sensible tips on personal hygiene, the correct use of a space heater, how to dress, the power of positive thinking, and the de rigueur dating tips, among other useful scenarios. Thank you! Aurally, it sounds (just like) “Buddy Holly” by Weezer — and you know, that can’t be bad.

“Internal World” can be found on the band’s fifth album, Life Without Sound due out January 27th, 2017 — just a few days away! Cloud Nothings are currently tour now in the US and elsewhere (scroll down for dates), so check them out when they come to your town! RIYL: Foo Fighters, Weezer, The Beatles. Enjoy!

Video Clip of The Week: Izzy True, “Mr. Romance”

First things first: Izzy True is the name of a Band, not an individual. That said, the punky-folk quartet’s guitarist/vocalist is named Isabel (Reidy), so no doubt that was an influence on the band’s moniker. And why not? Their voice is compelling in the same way that Robert Pollard’s lo-fi vocal stylings make every Guided By Voices fan swoon the moment he opens his mouth. Video Clip of The Week: Big Eyes, “Stake My Claim”

“Big Eyes” is the name of one of my favorite Cheap Trick songs, and it’s probably no accident that the Brooklyn based rock quartet also known by that name harnesses the same power pop sensibility accompanied by a hard rock edge — which is a proven formula for nearly-flawless music. Active since 2009, through various line-up shifts, Big Eyes is the project of Kaitlyn (Kait) Eldridge, a singer/songwriter/guitarist who fronts her band with the same self-possession that Joan Jett fronts The Blackhearts. In other words, she’s badass
