On This Date,  March 4th in 1966: Despite ample album sales to support his argument, John Lennon’s assertion that The Beatles “are more popular than Jesus” sparks widespread outrage. Lennon later apologized.

  1. These days it’s a lot easier to be more popular than Jesus. That statement was groundbreaking! At that point, being the heathen that I am, I was proud of John and the boys for leaping into that sudden hell.
