Rad Website of the Day: Pop Culture Princess!

Going to the mail box each day is always an exciting adventure. I never know what goodies I’ll find awaiting me there in the way of new CDs, DVDs or books to review for this here blog. Every day is Christmas when you’re me! Free stuff! Yesterday, though, I was quite surprised to receive a small package from an address I did not recognize.

I opened the package to find a box containing the most beautiful bracelet made from two strands of pale pink glass beads interwoven with small, colorful shiny bits that, upon further inspection, proved to be pieces of ‘repurposed’ compact discs. Innovative! An enclosed card explained that this bracelet was a gift from my friend Joan (also known simply as J) as a token of her appreciation for my long-running “Pink Thing of The Day” blog post series. It’s nice to have fans!

I’ve known J for over ten years as a music writer who’s always on the cutting edge of what’s hip and happening on the LA Rock Club Scene. Apparently, she now also makes awesome costume jewelry! J explains what her jewelry is all about on her Cool Blog, with more information on her jewelry available at Pop Culture Princess. J writes: “I hand make upcycled jewelry out of CDs, DVDs (along with the CD/DVD inserts themselves), vintage and recycled beads and semi-precious stones, rhinestones and Swarovski crystals.

The CDs and DVDs have been processed so they do not even look like what they once were! Necklaces, pendants, bracelets, pins, brooches, earrings…we do it all! I think of my aesthetic as green, minimalist rock star. Many items are reversible or can be worn in a multitude of ways. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind and cannot be reproduced exactly due to the way the CD/DVD is processed – no two are alike!”

J’s jewelry is very beautiful, super modern and also very affordably priced. Please check out more of her work and consider purchasing her jewelry for yourself or as a gift by visiting the Pop Culture Princess Etsy Store at This Link. Good luck J and thanks again for the lovely gift!
