Oops. This is what happens when you are distracted by a neo-fascist stealing a national election, accompanied with the onset of the holiday season and other various mind-numbing events: you neglect to blog about an art exhibit until it’s nearing its very last day of installation. My bad!

Materia Prima Opening Reception

In my defense, the exhibit just opened on November 4th, and three weeks does not seem like very long for something that, arguably, should be up for at least 4 to 6 weeks, amigright? Sure I am. Anyway, Materia Prima, curated by Stephen Romano, whose eponymous gallery is still without a permanent home, collects a de rigueur thematic presentation of art depicting sex, death, horror, spirituality and other ethereal and metaphysical delights from artists near and far, including:

Alexis Karl, Sarah Zar, Hanna Jaeun, Nyahzul Blanco, Barry William Hale, Dolorosa De La Cruz, Alessandro Sicioldr, Linnea Strid, Colin Christian, Lena Viddo, Gigi Chen, Erin O’Shea, Steven Bradshaw, Samuel Gliner, Damien Michaels, Cendrine Ravoni, Ken Weaver, Jel Ena, Teiji Hayama, John D. Monteith, Ray Robinson, P54, Jaya Suberg, Erna KD, Charlotte Rodgers, Steven Baines, Luke Grochocki, Orryelle Defenestrate, Inge Vandormael, Cecilia Avendaño Bobillier, Marko Velk, Travis Lawrence, Judith Vergara García, William Blayney AW Sommers, Brian Sparrow, William Mortensen, Lori Field, Charles Dellschau, Jacob Bohme, and Darcilio Lima

Check out some of our favorite pieces!

I finally got to meet artist Lori Field at the opening reception after worshiping her art for two years. Everything she does is genius. Also, she is super nice.

Black Sculptures

I don’t know they name of the artist of the works above, but they are pretty cool. I am sure that Stephen will tell me and then I can add it later. Because, the Internet!

This hyper-realist portrait from Ken Weaver looks like it was inspired by a character in a Rob Zombie-directed film.
