Aside from all the terrific Pink Artworks featured at the recent Spring edition of the Affordable Art Fair, the show’s two floors at Metropolitan Pavillion featured trash cans lined with these vibrant Pink and Black Polka Dot trash bags, which it turns out are part of the TRASH Project.
TRASH Project was founded in 2008 by artist and activist Adrian Kondratowicz as an interactive social practice that subverts the daily act of waste creation and disposal. The concept turns standard trash piles into self-generating colorful sculptures.
Kondratowicz’s TRASH Project is an artwork that inspires mindfulness about waste creation. The TRASH Project’s mission is urban beautification and environmental awareness. The project aims to raise eco-literacy through community events that are free and open to the public.
The TRASH Project is funded through the sale of TRASH bags and artwork generated from the project.
TRASH Project hosts clean-ups in parts throughout NYC, and you can help by getting involved! Follow TRASH Project on Instagram @thetrashproject for news, updates and volunteer opportunities in 2018.
