The WorleyGig has gone bi-costal! The Summer Edition of the 25th Annual LA Art Show at the Los Angeles Convention Center has returned as one of the first major art events in Southern California since the pandemic started in 2020. I attended the VIP preview on July 29th to catch a glimpse of what’s on view for West Coast readers of The ‘Gig.
Damien Hirst, Gold Cat From Egypt (Ai Bo Gallery)
The show features an eclectic mix of art, including favorites such as Damien Hirst, massive installations such as The Grind by G Bauerbach (pictured below) and the hottest commodity in the art world, the ubiquitous NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens).

Pop Star Rita Ora was on hand to launch the show, of which some of the proceeds for the event will be donated to St. Jude’s Hospital.
Despite the re-masking mandate for in-door events that was announced this week, the show felt safe and many of the guests decided to fashionably socially distance!
Otterly Delicious by Lucia Heffernan at REHS Contemporary ($9,200)
Chris Guest, Super Hero Queen at Copro Gallery ($12,000)
Perhaps it’s a sign of the times, but bright colors did not seem to flood the show as they often do, but nevertheless, I was still able to stay on-brand and capture some pink art!
Meghan Hedley, Desert Divinations at bG Gallery ($16,000)
Artist Robert Vargas was also live-painting on the show floor to benefit St. Jude.

As I attended the press preview, I ran into a few familiar faces including Purple Rain singer/actress Apollonia Kotero and artist Anthony Ausgang, who also had work in the show.
