There is no doubt that the costume designer plays an essential role in cinematic storytelling. For the Elton John biopic Rocketman (2019), costume designer Julian Day’s guiding principle was: the louder, the better.

This spectacular Winged Devil jumpsuit, created from orange spandex and augmented with Swarovski crystals and turkey feather wings, was the first of dozens of show-stopping costumes from this musical fantasy film.

A key look, it appears throughout the film as Elton John recounts his life story in flashback.
