Get ready, comic book fans — history is about to be made! This September, Marvel and DC are teaming up for their first crossover event in decades, kicking off with the release of Deadpool/Batman #1, a high-octane one-shot that pairs Marvel’s unhinged antihero Deadpool with DC’s brooding icon, Batman.
Published by Marvel, Deadpool/Batman #1 will hit comic shops on September 17, with a follow-up title — Batman/Deadpool #1 — set to be released by DC in November, continuing this long-awaited event.
Deadpool/Batman #1 boasts a powerhouse creative team: it’s written by Zeb Wells, known for his work on Amazing Spider-Man and the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine film, and illustrated by none other than Greg Capullo, a legendary artist with acclaimed runs on Batman and X-Men. In addition to the main story, the issue will include bonus backup tales that feature surprise Marvel/DC character match-ups. Details on these stories and creative teams will be revealed in the coming months.
As for the plot, Wade Wilson has been hired for a mission in Gotham City, and he’s bound to cross paths—and possibly Batarangs—with the Dark Knight. Whether Batman ends up helping or hunting Deadpool remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: chaos will ensue.
Zeb Wells shared his excitement about the project with Entertainment Weekly, saying, “After writing for 60 issues, I told Marvel I needed a break. Marvel told me I could do that or I could write a comic starring Deadpool and Batman with the best Batman artist of our generation. I no longer needed a break.”
Capullo was equally enthusiastic, adding, “Am I dreaming? This crossover is likely to be the high point of my career…and I’ve had a great career. Some of my earliest work was on X-Force, so Deadpool and I go way back. More recently, I spent over a decade drawing Batman at DC. The idea that I get to do a crossover event with Deadpool and Batman. If I am dreaming, please don’t wake me!”
This unprecedented team-up of Deadpool’s manic energy and Batman’s grim resolve promises to be one of the most talked-about releases of the year. Don’t miss the mayhem when Deadpool/ Batman #1 drops on September 17th, 2025.
