Coming this November, Marvel will release a bold new series of Street-Verse variant covers that reimagine icons like Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men, and even Doctor Doom in cutting-edge techwear.
First teased at San Diego Comic-Con, the 20 cover collection takes classic superhero costumes and gives them a fashion-forward twist, channeling the functionality and flair of modern techwear. Known for his dynamic digital illustrations and sharp sense of style, Lee blends character personality with runway-ready looks in a way that feels both fresh and true to the Marvel universe.
For Lee, this project is especially personal. “I started my career as a character designer at a game company 20 years ago, so I’ve always been interested in modern and practical design,” he explained. “Since the winter of 2021, I’ve been working on a personal project redesigning Spider-Man characters’ costumes in a modernized way. I called it ‘Who is next?’ Marvel saw the series and approached me with this cover and mural project.”
This collaboration also marks Lee’s 13th year working with Marvel. “They’ve always known what I do best,” he says, “and it’s a pleasure to work with Marvel, who recognize my strengths. I hope many people will enjoy these covers.”
