Stylin! (All Photos By Gail)

On a recent commute to the office, my eye was immediately drawn to a woman wearing a sage silk baseball jacket transformed into something extraordinary — its surface glittering with dozens of safety-pinned soda can pull tabs. Was it a one-of-a-kind creation? I’d like to think so. What’s certain is that everyone in that subway car knew they were in the presence of true New York Street Style. Props to her!

If you’re familiar my People of New York (AKA Spy Pics) series, you know how much I enjoy snapping secret  photos of people on public transit, on the street, in art galleries and museums, and then sharing those photos with you, dear readers. For my latest installment in this popular series, we are focused on people expressing their unique fashion sense  while riding  the subway. Enjoy!

On the 7 Train you might see a lady with a Blue-Painted Face and a Thumb-Sucking Clown Tote Bag! Just accept it!

Our only dude to appear in this post ( I know!) sports a vibrant Yellow Buzz Cut accented by his color-coordinated Yellow iPhone Case — because accessorizing is important! Bonus points, naturally, for the pink tie-dyed sweat shirt. He looks very put-together.

Leather Weather: You are doing it right!

Forget about the smart and practical “Where’s Waldo” knit cap: what  the hell is going on with these boots? Have you ever seen boots like these? I myself have not, but they are pretty amazing. I love how the wearer tucks her jeans into one boot, but lets the other pant-leg  hang freely over the boot, so you can really see what’s going on with this somewhat apocalyptic footwear design that is quite mystifying.

Maybe you’re thinking that this lady was selected for her ability to match the bright orange color of her dress to the subway seat — and that is part of  it –but there’s more going on here. Check out the Rodeo Gal and her Twirling Lasso that adorns  her comfy-looking loafers! With a roomy handbag completing the ensemble, she’s ready for some kind of summer adventure, no doubt.

Speaking of summer, we are ready for some of that action here in NYC, where temperatures have hovered in the sub-freezing (read: Arctic) range for several weeks in a row. With warmer weather on-the-brain, this woman’s easy breezy outfit says ‘Summer is Here’ in so many ways. I absolutely love how she took a simple,  flowing gauze dress and styled a color-coordinated, casual outfit with accessories in shades of pink, coral, and orange. From her beaded earrings to her fitted, lightweight cardigan, down to the multi-colored tassels on her oversized woven shoulder bag, she’s ready for a day in the sun.  And though I don’t get flip-flops on the subway (they leave the foot too vulnerable), they certainly are appropriate footwear for this outfit. Wishing everybody warmer days ahead until summer is upon us!
