On a recent commute to the office, my eye was immediately drawn to a woman wearing a sage silk baseball jacket transformed into something extraordinary — its surface glittering with dozens of safety-pinned soda can pull tabs. Was it a one-of-a-kind creation? I’d like to think so. What’s certain is that everyone in that subway car knew they were in the presence of true New York Street Style. Props to her!

The annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair  (ICFF),  is the showcase event of New York Design Week and by definition a fantastic place to see all of the latest trends in furniture and interior design. It’s also an ideal venue for spotting some of the coolest-looking and most sharply dressed people in Manhattan at any given time. Look at this handsome gentleman in his Hot Pink Suit, accented by a revealingly-ripped white T-shirt, with pristine white sneakers completing the outfit. He looks amazing! Thank you, unidentified man, for posing for me in your fabulous Pink Suit, and for being this week’s Pink Thing of The Day!

Confession: I am obsessive about taking photographs of art that includes no people in the frame. To achieve this goal requires great patience. It is a character-builder, for sure.

Pink Thing of The Day: Giant Pink Banana in the Subway

If this Giant Pink Banana looks familiar, it might be because you’ve seen one like it offered as a prize for winning one of the games at Luna Park in Coney Island. I was nowhere near Coney, however when I saw this happy teenager, waiting to board the elevator from the 7 Train platform at 42nd Street with the banana, which  is clearly as tall as he is, in tow. Live in NYC long enough and eventually you’ll see everything.

People Watching is one of the most fun things you can do in a big city like New York — and the best part about it is that you can do it anywhere. For the best Spy Pics though, the subway is one of my favorite places to get that coveted capture. Check out the guy above, who loves the  animated film based on The Beatles Yellow Submarine so much, he has started a tattoo sleeve of various images from the film. What a fan! Please enjoy a selection of my favorite photos of the people on Public Transit who keep NYC so colorful!
