Former Guitarist for the band called Alice Cooper, Glen Buxton, was born on this day, November 10, in 1947. What a shame that Glen isn’t alive to see the entire original band (not just Alice, thank God) inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame later this year.

Ian Anderson, singer for Jethro Tull, master flutist and mysterious pixie-man creature was born on this day, August 10th, in 1947! Jethro Tull sure was one of my very favorite bands when I was a teenager. Favorite Jethro Tull albums: Songs from the Wood and War Child. Favorite Jethro Tull Songs: “Teacher,” “Nothing Is Easy” and “Living In The Past,” which is basically my theme song. Happy Birthday, Ian!

Happy Birthday, Rick Derringer!

Rick Derringer

Guitarist Rick Derringer, who wrote and recorded “Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo” – one of my top five favorite songs of all time – turns 62 today, having been born on August 5th in  1947! Derringer (who also played with The McCoys, The Edgar Winter Group, and on a couple of album tracks by the original Alice Cooper band) was such a pretty boy way back in the day (like, seriously: pretty enough to be a girl).  Sadly, he’s succumbed to at least one botched face lift in the recent past, giving him that Joan Rivers/Saran Wrap Face look that just does not rock in any way. Why can’t people just age gracefully?
