It Only Happens Once a Century

1234 Clock

Need Alert! As today’s date is 07/08/09, don’t forget that at 12:34 (PM) and 56 seconds it will be 123456789.  Don’t let that special moment pass you by unnoticed!

RIP Farrah Fawcett

It’s sad enough that actress Farrah Fawcett has lost her long battle with cancer today, June 25th, 2009. It’s worse that Michael Jackson’s death on this same date will forever obliterate the news of her passing. She fought the good fight.

Update: Check out this fantastic Remembrance on the Tenth Anniversary of her Death.

RIP Sky Saxon of The Seeds

Sky Saxon

Breaking News:  Sky Saxon (born Richard Marsh), vocalist and founder of the seminal 1960s Garage Rock band, The Seeds has passed away today, June 25th, 2009, at St. David’s Hospital in Austin, Texas of as-yet unknown causes. The Seeds are perhaps best known for the hit singles “Pushin’ Too Hard” and “Can’t Seem To Make You Mine,” which can currently be heard sound-tracking an Axe Body Spray commercial. Sky shares his death day with both Michael Jackson (who, perhaps understandably, seem to be getting most of the attention) and actress Farrah Fawcett. What a freakin’ day. Rest In peace, Sky.

Various producers, including long-time Ramones producer Ed Stasium, are currently preparing tracks for a full album worth of material, slated for posthumous release at the end of the year.

Alice Cooper and Barack Obama, Together Again for the First Time

Here’s a little snippet I paraphrased from a press release sent to me earlier this week.
“School’s Out! Alice Cooper and Barack Obama Headline ASU Graduation.”

On Wednesday, May 13, Alice Cooper will appear before an anticipated crowd of 63,000 [Note: the release actually gave the number as “63,00,” so I’m just guessing], including 9,000 Arizona State University graduates, at ASU commencement ceremonies at Sun Devil Stadium in Phoenix. Alice will perform the perennial start-of-summer anthem “School’s Out,” backed by Runaway Phoenix, the band of which his son Dash Cooper (ASU Class of ’10) is a member.
