paul mccartney walk of fame star

Hollywood, Ca. February 10, 2012 – 50-plus years and counting of breaking boundaries and making history and Paul McCartney shows no sign of slowing. In a historic week in Los Angeles that began with the release of his brand new album Kisses On The Bottom (Hear Music/Concord) and will culminate in his appearance at the 54th annual Grammy Awards, Paul found time for two landmarks in one day on Thursday, February 9. Meet The Beatles! Released 47 Years Ago!

Meet Them!

On This Date, January 20th in 1964: The Beatles released the album Meet The Beatles! Every song on this album is a work of musical genius. Released on January 20, 1964, Meet The Beatles! was the first Capitol Records Beatles album, issued in both mono and stereo, but it’s actually the second Beatles’ album released in the United States, despite the “first album” claim on its cover. Ten days prior to the release of Meet the Beatles!, Chicago’s Vee-Jay Records released The Beatles’ first album, Introducing…The Beatles, which had been delayed for release from the previous summer. In 2003, Meet The Beatles! was ranked number 59 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Capitol Records

On This Day, June 4th, in 1942: Glenn Wallichs started Capitol Records. Wallichs “invented” the art of record promotion by being the first record company owner to send free copies of label’s new releases to radio stations in hopes of gaining airplay. Capitol Records was, of course, home to The Beatles for decades, as well as artist like The Beach Boys, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin, Glen Campbell, Steve Miller, Dr. Hook, Bob Seger, Tina Turner and Heart.
