Jim Morrison: 40 Years Gone
Jim Morrison shuffled off this mortal coil exactly forty years ago today. Wow. A lot of Doors fans reading this post weren’t even born then. I was ten years old, so Jim has been dead for most of my life. He left us a lot of good and very unique music, and for this we should continue to fete him each year on the anniversary of his passing. My fellow rock critic Rob O’Connor has an noteworthy contribution to this day of remembering Jim Morrison in his latest Yahoo Music column, List of The Day, in which he conducts an interview with himself about Morrison’s life and The Doors’ contribution to music. It is quite clever/hilarious while also remaining respectful to the memory of Mr. Mojo Rising. Sort of. Also, O’Connor offers some solid advice for the novice Doors collector. Example:

A Death in the Chick Tank
“Julius” 2010 – 2011
Earlier this evening, little Julius the Golden Ryukin was found belly up in the Chick Tank after showing signs of illness before I left for work this morning. He enjoyed a short but good life. Tonight we are also saying goodbye to actress Jane Russell, who was 89, and Electric Prunes Bassist Mark Tulin, age 62. Godspeed.
Keith Moon Runs Over Bodyguard
On This Date, January 4th, in 1970: Who drummer Keith Moon accidentally ran over and killed his friend and bodyguard Neil Boland while trying to escape a gang of skinheads outside of a pub in Hatfield, U.K. Although Boland’s death was ruled an accident and no criminal charges were ever brought against him, those close to Keith say he was haunted by the accident for the rest of his life.
Happy Birthday, Dennis Wilson
Dennis Wilson, drummer for The Beach Boys would have celebrated his 66th Birthday today. On December 28, 1983, shortly after his 39th birthday, Wilson drowned at Marina Del Rey in Los Angeles after drinking all day and diving in the afternoon to recover items he had thrown overboard at the marina from his yacht back in 1980. He was buried at sea off the California coast on January 4, 1984 by the U.S. Coast Guard.
