Video Clip of The Week: The Coathangers, “Perfume”

The end of summer is always bitter-sweet. *Sigh*. So, let’s liven the mood a bit with this a softly rocking tune from Atlanta-based garage rockers, The Coathangers, who are making an encore appearance on this here rad blog with their thematically seductive video for “Perfume.”

As the beguiling Coathanger ladies lounge and frolic on the beach, or cruise leisurely down an inlet canal, the lyrics, “Summer stole the perfume from my eyes” tells you all you need to know about the seasonal transition that leaves us all feeling a bit wistful. The Coathangers have been descirbed as Stiff Little Fingers on Diazepam, meets the Pixies, meets the Dandy Warhols. I cant really do better than that, so let’s just let that smoldering ember sit a bit, and cool off. Hit me!

“Perfume” can be found on the band’s latest EP, Parasite, which is out now on Suicide Squeeze Records! Enjoy!

Video Clip of the Week: “Shelley” by Kid Wave

The seductive sound of UK-based quartet Kid Wave was described to me as “Johnny Marr hangin’ with The Beach Boys,” which was enough to pique my interest. But it’s lead singer Lea Emmery’s channeling of PJ Harvey and the minor chord melody entwined with Mattias Bhatt’s opiated guitar work that really hits this tune out of the ballpark. The plaintive refrain, “Let’s Go Surifn,” makes “Shelley” the perfect song for the bittersweet end of summer. Recommended if you like The Jesus and Mary Chain, Mazzy Star or The Sundays. Enjoy!
