Earlier this past summer, British music journalist Mark Blake published his book Is This The Real Life?, an engaging biography of the band Queen. Blake’s book is crammed with amazing personal information on the band’s members – Freddie Mercury, John Deacon, Roger Taylor and Brian May – in addition to chronicling their success as a group. Blake had a good deal of assistance in gathering his researched material from a guy named Peter Hince, who was a member of Queen’s road crew for over a decade, in addition to also being the personal roadie to both Freddie Mercury and John Deacon.

On This Day In Music: The Beatles Perform Their Final Concert
On This Date, January 30th, in 1969: The Beatles (accompanied by Billy Preston) performed their final concert on the rooftop of Apple’s offices in London. The played “Get Back,” “Don’t Let Me Down,” “I’ve Got A Feeling”, “The One After 909” and “I Dig A Pony.” The performance was halted 42 minutes into their set due to noise complaints.

On This Date, July 7th in 1980: Led Zeppelin performed their last concert with their original lineup at the Eissporthalle in West Berlin, Germany. Coincidentally, twelve years earlier on his very date, Jimmy Page’s former band, The Yardbirds, broke up, which paved the way for Page to form Zeppelin. I am going to load some Led Zeppelin tunes onto my iPod right now! Led Zeppelin!
