Hugh Cornwell of The Stranglers was born on this day, August 28th, in 1949! Hugh is currently in the process of re-releasing his download-only 2008 album, HOOVERDAM. Like all of Cornwell’s dozen or so post-Stranglers‘ solo efforts, HOOVERDAM is quite excellent and recommended listening. Favorite Stranglers song: “All Roads Lead To Rome.”
John “Sib” Hashian, original drummer for Boston, and current drummer for Ernie & The Automatics, was born on this day, August 17th in 1949. Read my update on Sib in the September 2009 issue of Modern Drummer, on newsstands now. Happy Birthday, Sib!
President Barack Obama was born on this day in 1961, The Year of The Ox – just like me! Have an awesome Birthday, Mr. President and don’t let those lunatic-fringe-dwelling Birthers get you down!
All Things Must Pass: 1943-2001 (George Harrison with Paramahansa Yogananda)
George Harrison my favorite Beatle, was born on this day, February 25th in 1943. I am celebrating his birthday today by playing All Things Must Pass, which is not only his best album but arguably the best solo album by any former Beatle. That includes Paul McCartney’sRam and what ever John Lennon album has “#9 Dream” on it. If you find yourself in the mood today to get a bit nostalgic about George, here’s an excellent article/memorium on his life and career.
