Usually, when The ‘Gig gives a shout out to a birthday boy or girl, we try to lump all birthdays happening on the same day together in one post, to save space or whatever. But for reasons which should be obvious, we could not really lump Paramahansa Yogananda (Born January 5th, 1893) – author of Autobiography of a Yogi, founder of Self-Realization Fellowship, and the guy who taught Gandhi how to meditate – in with Marilyn Manson, Antichrist Superstar (Born January 5th, 1969). Because, no. Happy birthday, Paramahansaji!
The self-proclaimed God of Fuck, Marilyn Manson (born Brian Hugh Warner) was born on this day, January 5th, in 1969. Happy Birthday Manson and thank you for being my very first in-person interview ever way back in 1995. Today is also the birthday of Indian Guru Paramahansa Yogananda and my niece, Shelby. Happy Birthday, All!
All Things Must Pass: 1943-2001 (George Harrison with Paramahansa Yogananda)
George Harrison my favorite Beatle, was born on this day, February 25th in 1943. I am celebrating his birthday today by playing All Things Must Pass, which is not only his best album but arguably the best solo album by any former Beatle. That includes Paul McCartney’sRam and what ever John Lennon album has “#9 Dream” on it. If you find yourself in the mood today to get a bit nostalgic about George, here’s an excellent article/memorium on his life and career.
