Designer Allison Eden got her start over 25 years ago designing custom glass mosaics for private clients ( you can see an example of her beautiful work on the far left in the above photo). Eden then began applying her colorful, pop art aesthetic to a variety of interior finishes including textiles, wallpapers and carpets to develop one of the most fun and recognizable brands in the industry.

Modern Art Monday Presents: Jasper Johns, Montez Singing

In Montez Singing (1989), the cartoonish eyes and meandering nose from Picasso’s Straw Hat with Blue Leaves (1936), along with a pair of  stylized lips, attach themselves to the edges of the painting, so that it becomes a face peering in on itself.  At the right of the canvas, mitered corners suggest a frame that dissolves on the left, while wispy strokes at the sides might read as hair and the circles below as breasts.

Eye On Design: Bocca Sofa

The iconic Bocca Sofa (also unofficially known an the Lips Sofa) was created by the radical Italian design team Studio 65 for the famed Italian manufacturers Gufram back in 1972. Based on an original design by none other than Surrealist Salvador Dali, who took Mae West as his inspiration, Studio 65 looked to that other iconic beauty, Marilyn Monroe, to create this famous sofa. Both Studio 65 and Gufram are known for being places where the art world and design world collided, and their kaleidoscopic fusion of pop art, conceptual art and modernist design reached their zenith with this piece.
