Video Clip of The Week: Monster Magnet, “When the Hammer Comes Down”

If there is one band that can always be relied on to deliver the goods when you just want to Rock Out, that band is Monster Magnet. This week’s featured clip is a performance-based lyric video for the group’s current single, “When the Hammer Comes Down,” and it does not disappoint in its delivery of the relentless heavy metal Sturm und Drang that defines iconic front man Dave Wyndorf and his head-banging bandmates.

Visually, this clip reminds me of classic Black Sabbath, with its film negative imaging and minimal, but signature, visual effects. Though not an overtly political song, I’m pretty sure that Wyndorf is opposes the current Administration, which makes me love him even more. Point being that the basic titular theme, and the song’s refrain, “The Universe will do you right/ when the Hammer Comes Down,” can certainly be embraced by the Resistance movement going surging in this country. It could not come at a better time.

The video release of “When the Hammer Comes Down” coincides with the kick off of Monster Magnet’s North American Fall Tour, dates for which are below, in support of their most recent album release, Mindfucker. Enjoy, bitches!

Monster Magnet 2018

Video Clip of The Week: Monster Magnet, “Ejection”

Do you like to Rock? I sure do, and one band that can always be relied upon to bring the Rock is Monster Magnet, fronted by one of the last great American rock gods, Dave Wyndorf! It is true that this particular Sunday morning is kind of a suckfest, because it’s the first day of Daylight Saving Time, which blows, because that means we have lost one hour of precious weekend sleep. Lame City. So, let’s focus instead on how much better this morning will be, now that we have a new Monster Magnet tune and video to kick our asses into a waking state. You’re welcome!

This rad clip, “Ejection,” is actually a smokin’ hot, rocket-fueled cover of a tune by Lemmy’s old band from the ’70s, Hawkwind! Fans may recall that Monster Magnet previously covered Hawkwind’s “The Right Stuff” on 2004’s Monolithic Baby!, so you know that Dave is a big fan. The original song is a true ’70s classic and couldn’t be a better indication of what to expect from the new album! I also enjoy the visuals of what looks like the band performing while floating across the vast cosmos as a volcano erupts in the  background. Or something like that.

“Ejection” is the second single from  MindFucker — Monster Magnet’s eleventh studio album  — which will be released on March 23rd, 2018 via Napalm Records. Enjoy!

Video Clip of The Week: Black Mirrors, “Funky Queen”

Oh boy, here’s a good one! This week’s Video Clip, courtesy of Belgian rockers Black Mirrors will coax you right out of any residual funk, because it is called “Funky Queen” — and it kicks ass all over the place! If Janis Joplin, Jack White, Anouk, Nirvana and Queens Of The Stone Age ever had the chance to breed, Black Mirrors might have been their very attractve spawn. Black Mirrors is Belgium’s answer to pretty much every rock band out there: fronted by the stunning vocalist Marcella Di Troia, these guys manage to gather an endless amount of influences which have been ruling the rock n’ roll universe for decades, combining them seamlessly into Black Mirrors‘ very own addictive sound.

The artfully-shot-in-black-and-white performance-based video for “Funky Queen” was filmed and edited by Van’s Ography and it perfectly showcases Di Troia’s incredible vocal chops, on-stage charisma and undeniable sass! “Funky Queen” is the title song from Black Mirrors‘ upcoming 4-song EP, due out on March 3rd, 2017 via Napalm Records! Like the band on the FaceBook at This Link! Enjoy!
