Happy Birthday Ian Astbury and CC DeVille!

Today, May 14th, is the shared birthday of both Ian Astbury – former sex god and singer for The Cult – and Poison guitarist CC Deville. Both gentlemen claim to have been born in 1962, which would make them the exact same age today! Your mileage may vary. I interviewed Ian back in 2000 and that was a good time. Not only did he confess to being completely and totally obsessed with Cuban guerrilla leader Che Guevara, but I do recall that it was also nearly impossible get him off the phone. I’ve never interviewed CC, but I have met him in person and I can say that up close he is quiet scary looking. For a taste of CC at his best, musically, feel free to ditch Poison’s entire catalog and try to find a copy of the long-out-of-print first CD by CC’s side project, Samantha Seven, which is excellent. Happy Birthday, Boys!

Today we will learn something new about my very favorite fish, the Cowfish, which is “probably the most well known of the Boxfish! The Cowfish, Longhorn Cowfish, or Long-horned Cowfish can be seen in almost every public aquarium. They are hardy and they love to eat! Cowfish are easily recognized by the horns on the forehead and the bottom rear of the body. These horns make them hard for predators to swallow. In any case their flesh is poisonous and would not make for a very good meal!

“Don’t Threaten Me With A Good Time”: The Rock Of Love Recaps!

One of my very favorite guilty pleasures of last summer was watching VH1’s Rock Of Love with Bret Michaels, lead singer of the world’s-luckiest-not-that-talented bar band, Poison. Even though this show actually wrapped up months ago, Television Without Pity  is just now hilariously recapping season one .  I guess it gives them something fun to write about until the new episodes of Survivor start in February. Whoever’s doing the recapping is going super-heavy on the snark – which is always fun!  Here’s just a little snippet of the action from episode one:

“Bret gets to know Brandi M. and Jessica. First of all, only on this show do you have two Brandis. Brandi M. is from Buffalo and moved to Vegas, where she just started dancing. And I think we all know what kind of dancing . . .”

What a breath of fresh air Gail is! A rock fan turned critic who actually "gets it." My God, what a concept!
