“And the Clothes You Wear, They’re So Fine…”

On this date in 1977: The Vibrators released their third single, “Baby Baby,” backed by “Into The Future.” Both songs appeared on the band’s debut fantastic album, Pure Mania, which remains one of my favorite albums of all time, to this day. The album also included the track, “Stiff Little Fingers” – the song from which Stiff Little Fingers took its name. The London punk band has gone through numerous lineup changes but is still active, with lead singer Knox and drummer, Eddie, still present from the original band.

Rad Website of the Week: Ratty’s Queen Memories

It is no secret that I spent a few of my teenage years being completely, over-the-top obsessed with the rock band Queen. I was lucky enough to see Queen about five times on the Night at the Opera, Day at the Races, News of the World and Jazz tours. My love of all things Queen was so all-consuming, I even knew the names of and biographical details about their roadies, one of whom was nicknamed “Ratty.” So it only took me about three seconds to flash back to the good old late ‘70s when, quite by chance, I came across the website Ratty’s Queen Memories. Guitarist, arranger, songwriter, producer and famous sideman Mick Ronson, who lost his battle with liver cancer in 1993, was born on this, May 26th, in 1946. Famous for his guitar work with Ian Hunter as well as David Bowie’s flamboyant Spiders From Mars, Ronson defined a style which has inspired many musicians through the years and was honored by Rolling Stone magazine, who voted him the 64th Greatest Guitar Player of all Time. Celebrate his birthday today by keeping his memory alive!
