MilkBoy Swiss Chocolate is a brand I know from their many years exhibiting at the Summer Fancy Food Show, where their extra-rich and creamy chocolate bars win all the Sofi Awards. If you’re wondering why that is, it’s because MilkBoy chocolate is made with sustainably-farmed milk sourced from the Swiss alpine mountain region, so it just makes sense that it is the best, because who else is doing that?
At this years’ SFFS, MilkBoy expanded its line of chocolate treats by introducing its new Swiss Chocolate Drink — which you can imbibe hot as cocoa or cold as chocolate milk. Just in time for the holidays, they sent me a sample to review for you. As you can see from the above “unboxing” photo, the package included one canister of Swiss Chocolate Drink powder, one collectible enameled-metal mug bearing MilkBoy’s packaging artwork created by famous Swiss paper-cut artist, Esther Gerber, and one Tiny Cow flashlight / keychain. Very Fun!
I’m sure that I do not have to give you the hard-sell on Chocolate Drink Mix, because — hot or cold — it is, of course, delicious. But I have been drinking hot chocolate since my mom used to make it from scratch on the stove every Christmas season, so I know the good stuff when I taste it. MilkBoy is the good stuff.
Let’s make a cup of Hot Cocoa, shall we? First, you’ll notice that the container comes with an easy-to-open foil seal to make sure it arrives to you fresh. The container can then be resealed with the included plastic lid. Convenient!
Directions recommend that you add 1-2 tablespoons of chocolate powder to 8 ounces (or more) of hot or cold milk (plant-based /alternative milks are ok). I used one heaping tablespoon to about 9 ounces of hot milk and my hot cocoa was super rich and chocolatey, so maybe taste test before adding more, as your mileage may vary. Each canister contains 16 ounces (1 pound) of gourmet Swiss Chocolate Drink Mix for about 16 servings — perfect for sharing or enjoying all to yourself.
Having extensive personal experience with powdered hot cocoa mixes, I can say that this Swiss Chocolate Drink dissolves thoroughly in milk for a rich, velvety mouthfeel, and superb chocolate taste, with no bottom-of-the-cup sediment. A decadent treat, Swiss Chocolate Drink is a dairy-free, gluten-free, GMO-free cacao powder, so there are no weird, unpronounceable ingredients.
