Hey all of you Shark-Loving Bitches out there, guess what? That’s right, it’s Shark Week again! For big fans of Sharks, (like me) it’s one of the most highly-anticipated weeks of TV programming all year! Shark Week!

What’s Shark Week, you may ask? Well, for those who were just born today, Shark Week is an annual, week-long TV programming block on the Discovery Channel, which features shark-based content. Originally premiering on July 17, 1988, it’s since become the longest-running cable television programming event in history. Shark Week typically airs in July or early August and includes a variety of documentaries, specials, and entertainment shows all focused on sharks.

Shark Week 2024 on Discovery begins Sunday, July 7th at 8:00 PM ET/PT. The inaugural night of this year’s Shark Week will feature four hours of new programming, running all the way until midnight. Shark Week will continue every day until Saturday, July 13th, when the final new programming will end at 9:00 PM. Consult the nightly schedule at This Link.

The purpose of Shark Week is to raise awareness about sharks, dispel myths, and educate the public about their importance to the ocean ecosystem. Shows include both educational and thrilling content, ranging from shark research and conservation efforts to dramatic re-enactments of shark attacks. Many aquariums and nature organizations also observe Shark Week with special  events and programming, so do a little bit of Googling to see what’s going on near where you live!
