The final chapter of the Skywalker saga is returning in an exciting new form. This February, Marvel Comics will release a five-issue limited comic series adapting Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the 2019 film that brought the legendary Star Wars saga to its dramatic conclusion.
Written by Jody Houser and illustrated by Will Sliney, the adaptation promises more than just a faithful retelling of the film. Fans can look forward to new scenes not included in the movie, adding fresh dimensions to the Resistance’s final stand against the First Order, the shocking return of Emperor Palpatine, and Rey’s climactic confrontation with Kylo Ren.

A Star Wars Tradition Continues
Marvel’s history of adapting Star Wars films into comics dates back to the original trilogy, and this new release keeps that legacy alive. The adaptation arrives alongside another highly anticipated comic series: Star Wars: Legacy of Vaderby Charles Soule and Luke Ross, which explores Kylo Ren’s transformation into Supreme Leader of the First Order and his search for Darth Vader’s dark past.
While Legacy of Vader bridges the gap between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, this adaptation invites fans to relive — or experience for the first time — the thrilling conclusion of Rey and Kylo Ren’s intertwined journeys.
A Galaxy in Peril
The comic’s plot revisits the Resistance’s desperate battle against the First Order’s growing dominance. As Poe Dameron uncovers a new, unimaginable threat, Rey embarks on a dangerous mission to locate a hidden Sith stronghold. With time running out, the Resistance must act swiftly to stop the emergence of the Final Order and the devastating consequences it promises.
“There’s a resurgence of interest in these characters, especially Kylo Ren, Darth Vader’s blood heir,” said Mark Paniccia, Editor at Marvel Comics. “Jody’s script perfectly captures the emotional depth of these iconic moments, while Will Sliney’s artwork and Guru-eFX’s colors bring a fresh, visually stunning take on this epic finale.”
