This nightmare-inducing rabbit named Frank haunts Donnie (Jake Gyllenhaal), the troubled teen in the supernatural thriller-turned-cult film, Donnie Darko ( 2001). Director Richard Kelly drew early concepts of Frank after being inspired by the novel Watership Down (1972), which follows a group of human-like rabbits in search of a new home. While Frank’s appearance suggest the horror of Donnie‘s alienation, the rabbit delivers prophecies in a calm, soft-spoken manner, warning Donnie of impending apocalypse and guiding his actions.
Costume designer April Ferry crafted the suit and sculptors Dale R. Brady and Rob Berman created the viscerally terrifying mask.
Photographed in the Academy Museum in Hollywood, California.

I really want to go to this museum next time I’m out there! Donnie Darko rules.
